This affectionate friend joins us on this, the most lovey-dovey day of the year, straight from the shelves of Goodwill. Her heavy-lidded expression and open arms(?) beckon you close. Her eyes probe the depths of your own: searching, ever searching—for what? Come, she seems to be saying, let me whisper to you those sweet nothings I’ve been saving up all year.
Because the arms are intact, we have to assume that this mug has never been washed—maybe never even used? But then again, I’m intrigued to imagine the previous owner of this mug, delicately handwashing the monstrosity, scrubbing between the cartoonish little fingers. Who were they? Who gave them this mug? And why did they decide to give it up?
Some questions in life will never be answered.
